What it takes to gain political power
Jan Vest, AAOE Member    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
I've had time to reflect on my trip to Washington, D.C., with AAOE members and AAOS surgeons from all 50 states. Besides the experience of trying to educate members of the Senate and Congress (which is challenging enough) and moving among the halls of government offices, I came away with this lesson: It takes data and lots of it to make our points with members of Congress. George D. Trantow, FACHE    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The CEO of Raytheon Corporation collected these rules and tales about management. "Swanson's Unwritten Rules of Management" was originally part of a PowerPoint presentation the CEO used with his engineers and managers. Some of the rules were originally published in 1944 as "The Unwritten Laws of Engineering" by W.J. King. Unfortunately, they were not available to the general public. How to oversee practice staff's appearance — legally
American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A physician practice needs to tread carefully when regulating the look of its employees. Policies delineating what is acceptable about hygiene, visible body modifications, hair and clothing will rarely get a practice into trouble if there is some flexibility. Rules governing physique are more likely to land a practice in hot water. Some businesses have argued successfully that hiring people with a certain physical appearance is a bona fide occupational qualification. More
