Our ask was simple, sign on to co-sponsor a bill that would allow medical practices to work together when negotiating contracts with insurance companies. Currently, this practice, known as collusion, is illegal for medical providers but not for insurance providers.

Physicians working in physician-owned practices are most satisfied with their compensation packages when compared with colleagues working for universities or hospitals, a survey shows.

More signs that health coverage is growing under Obamacare
    Politico
Millions of Americans have gained health insurance since Obamacare went into effect, according to several new surveys that show the law is bringing down the nation's uninsurance rate after its "train wreck" of a start. Three new surveys released in rapid succession Thursday found substantial numbers of newly insured adults. None of those findings will put to rest the political debate about the cost, structure and wisdom of the Affordable Care Act but they do give advocates firm evidence that the law is meeting coverage goals.

Quality still accounts for minor slice of physician pay
    Medscape
Reward quality instead of quantity — that's the new focus in physician compensation that healthcare industry experts call a paradigm shift. Judging by survey data released last week by the Medical Group Management Association, the paradigm hasn't shifted very much.

Among the multitude of tasks to prepare for the ICD-10 code sets, providers also should conduct two core tests with insurers: Acknowledgement testing, also known as historical validation testing, and End-to-End testing. Health Data Management recently talked with Ryan McDermitt, vice president of compliance management at transactions processing and management vendor Edifecs, to walk through the tests and other ICD-10 issues.

The growing importance of population health management and value-based care as well as market share and leverage with payers is spurring much of the trend toward physician hiring. Study: Electronic health records don't increase Medicare fraud
    EHRIntelligence.com
Fears about providers taking advantage of EHR technology to commit Medicare fraud may be unfounded, according to a study published online this week in Health Affairs. Concerns over intentional and inadvertent fraud, committed by copying and pasting inaccurate documentation or selecting incorrect billing codes, are not widespread enough to commit significant resources towards policy changes, found Julia Adler-Milstein, University of Michigan assistant professor of information, and Ashish K. Jha, Harvard professor of public health.
