Excel Tip: How to Filter Unique Records
    AAOE
One of the questions that I have frequently been asked is, "Is it possible to create a unique list of records from a column that has a lot of duplicates?" I have seen users try and do this manually which can be time consuming especially when you have hundreds or thousands of records to filter through. Fortunately, we can easily accomplish this task using Excel's Advanced Filter. Creating a unique list of records is very useful for comparing values side by side, creating a custom list or validation list for a drop-down box.

Member to Member: Restating Traditional Financial Statements for Internal Usefulness
    AAOE
While an attractively presented statement of income or balance sheet prepared by a CPA has definite usefulness, it may unfortunately not be a very good working tool. For example; there are cash flow management measures you can use to determine the administration and management of money flowing in and out of a business. And your practice is indeed a business, thus without cash it would ultimately fail.

    COMPLIANCE CORNER

    Healthcare — Awash in Regulation
    AAOE
We live in world where acronyms constitute a large chunk of our lexicon: OSHA wants CEs to have an HCP and an ECP to protect against BBP, HIV, HBV, and OPIM. Oh, and PPE can help, especially with MRSA. Don’t forget HIPAA and HITECH, which protect PHI and EPHI, and all patients should read your NPP. Otherwise the OCR and DOJ won’t be happy.

    WITHIN YOUR PRACTICE WALLS

Patients see higher bills after doctors sell practices
    CNBC
The doctor might be the same, but her bill's going to be higher. A strong trend of hospitals buying up physicians practices as well as hospital mergers is threatening to also drive up costs to patients — at least in the short term.

Making better doctors: A hard look at Board Recertification
    The Philadelphia Inquirer
Until recently, most doctors who gained board certification did so at the start of their careers. That means a doctor who is 65 years old could have been certified as far back as 1973. What does this say about his or her competence today, 40 years later? The answer given by most physicians is that they are as competent as ever. But how can you be sure?

Most rotator cuff injuries heal well without surgery
    HealthNewsDigest
A pair of new studies indicate that most patients with rotator cuff injuries respond well to nonsurgical treatment, and a key predictor of who benefits most from physical therapy may simply be who expects to. This is good news for those coping with rotator cuff injuries, the most common cause of shoulder pain and dysfunction in adults, according to Jeffrey Yormak, MD, of Somers Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Group in New York.

Doctors readying for Obamacare's new health insurance benefits
    The Huffington Post
Conversations between primary care doctors and their patients are likely to be a critical part of getting the word out to uninsured people that Obamacare's health insurance exchanges may be a gateway to coverage that has eluded them. So far, patients and families aren't asking many questions and are more likely to express concerns.
