She looks back at the adventure and memories as one of the highlights of my professional career. The trip was truly an awakening, conveying clearly, the fortune of the U.S. healthcare available, regardless of form of delivery.

    Medical Xpress
The income gap between men and women in the United States has been closing over the last quarter century, but not among physicians. Rethinking physician recruitment strategies
    Healthcare Finance News
A perfect storm of demographic trends is creating a critical — and growing — gap between the demand for care and the number of doctors available to provide it. Reform measures implemented under the Affordable Care Act will provide healthcare insurance for up to 30 million additional Americans. At the same time, AAMC reports a downward trend in medical school enrollment.

Doctors are an untapped resource in understanding ACA
    By Pamela Lewis Dolan
Doctors and nurses, who are among the most trusted sources of information about the Affordable Care Act in many patients' opinions, could play a valuable role in helping the public understand the law. But they are among the least used sources from which most people have actually received information. The Kaiser Family Foundation Health Tracking Poll from August found there's plenty of confusion surrounding the ACA and what it might mean to patients. Many believe physicians and nurses can provide the best information about the law, but those conversations aren't taking place.

No standard pay for doc services
    MedPage Today
Private insurers pay some doctors almost twice as much for routine office visits as other doctors, a retrospective analysis published in Health Affairs showed. An assessment of 21 office-based services showed that for 18 services, the allowable payable amount for the highest-paid doctors was more than twice what it was for the lowest-paid doctors, according to Laurence Baker, Ph.D., of Stanford University, and colleagues.

Health insurance sales hit the mall — and Web
    USA Today
Call it the retailization of health insurance. Shopping center owners may not be courting them as they would Apple or trendy fashion brands, but health insurers are increasingly opening stores alongside far sexier retail tenants. With few people buying health insurance on their own, insurers have long focused on retaining and attracting the companies that offer it to their employees. Now, however, the new health law known as the Affordable Care Act means most uninsured Americans are required to have insurance beginning March 31 or pay a penalty at tax time in 2015.
