Even though I always recommend making a copy of the original data before starting to manipulate it in any way — this ensures you have a clean copy in case you need to reference back to it — there is a fast and easy solution to ensure that you can always go back to the original sort order. Medicare claims contractor swap renews fears of pay disruptions
American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Physicians in several states are concerned about a possible surge in Medicare payment problems as they lose their familiar program contacts during the latest round of transitions to a new system of Medicare administrative contractors. Medicare officials are trying to streamline the system by rebidding contracts for the companies that oversee claims processing, program enrollment and other administrative functions for the entitlement program. The ups and downs of electronic medical records
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The case for electronic medical records is compelling: They can make healthcare more efficient and less expensive, and improve the quality of care by making patients' medical history easily accessible to all who treat them. But as healthcare providers adopt electronic records, the challenges have proved daunting, with a potential for mix-ups and confusion that can be frustrating, costly and even dangerous. More

    Countdown to ICD-10 is on

The publication of the final rule officially announcing a change in the ICD-10 compliance date from Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 1, 2014, ends the uncertainty surrounding ICD-10 implementation that has plagued the healthcare industry. It would be extremely ill-advised for a healthcare organization to count on another delay. More

Enrollment season opens for Medicare Advantage and drug plans
Kaiser Health News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Medicare beneficiaries can now begin choosing their drug and medical coverage for 2013, and most seniors are expected to stick with the same policies they have already, despite price changes and a rating system that shows some plans may be better than others. Seniors have been reluctant to change plans, even if there are cheaper or better-rated alternatives, according to recent studies and seniors advocates. More

MedPAC moves toward backing geographic pay reductions
American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
An advisory panel on Medicare payment adequacy has proposed that Congress allow the physician work component of a patient service to be adjusted throughout the country based on the doctor's geographic location. Evidence suggests that varying the work component — one of the factors that determines how much Medicare pays for a particular service — would not affect patient access, members of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission said.
