    AAOE
There are many important elements to implementing an effective HIPAA Program, but none are more important than completing a security risk analysis. Leadership Quote of the Week
    Peter F. Drucker
"The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say 'I.' And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say 'I.' They don't think 'I.' They think ‘we'; they think 'team.' They understand their job to be to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but 'we' gets the credit ... This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done."

    WITHIN YOUR PRACTICE WALLS

Efforts underway to help physicians find best apps to recommend
    Pamela Lewis Dolan
As patient engagement becomes an increasingly important aspect of a reformed healthcare system, mobile health applications are often thought to hold great potential for getting patients more involved in their healthcare. With more than 43,000 health-related apps available on the iTunes store alone, and new apps being introduced every day, there is no shortage when it comes to available tools. But due to sheer volume, the ability for doctors to assess and analyze these tools for their safety and efficacy is lacking.

After fix, Obama vows not to 'gut' healthcare reform
    CNN
Hours after announcing changes to his signature legislative accomplishment, President Barack Obama pledged to keep the Affordable Care Act's essential elements in place despite growing pressure in Congress and elsewhere. "We're not going to gut the law. We're going to fix what needs to be fixed," Obama said, blaming an "entrenched" attitude and a botched rollout for distracting from the measure's reforms.

As we approach 2014, the watershed year for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act implementation, great uncertainty remains about healthcare reform's ultimate impact on physician practices. Everywhere we look, it is being reported in the media that PPACA and all of the financial pressures in healthcare are making it increasingly difficult for physicians to remain independent.

Hospitals may be disappearing in the era of healthcare reform
    Forbes
What first comes to mind when you hear the word "hospital?" Your reaction may depend on your past experiences. You may feel gratitude for the birth of a child or the treatment of acute appendicitis. You may feel sorrow, remembering a loved one who passed away on a hospital bed. Regardless of our experiences, many of us assume the closer our hospital is to where we live, the safer and better off we are. But that assumption is wrong. Fewer hospitals with increased volumes would lead to higher quality of care and better clinical outcomes.
