A child with a birth defect is born every 30 to 40 seconds in China, according to recent statistics. Leading causes are suspected to be pollution, hereditary conditions, radioactivity, and the older age of mothers. The birth defect rate was 90.78 per 10,000 births in Beijing in 1997, according to the Beijing Bureau of Health. It nearly doubled over the next ten years: by 2008, the birth defect rate was 170.82 per 10,000 births, and is thought to be still increasing. More

Seemingly Trivial Ailments Such as a Sore Throat May Mean Cancer

Six-member Dental Team Treats 55 Swazi Patients

A six-member combined dental team from the Air Force, Army and Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force treated 55 patients during the two-day dental civic assistance project as part of exercise MEDFLAG 09. Three of the four Air Force members are assigned to the 920th Aeromedical Staging Squadron out of Patrick AFB, Fla. The fourth, Air Force Col. Dean Whitman is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with the 59th Medical Wing at Wilford Medical Hall, Texas, and Army Spc. Reginald Lee, 212th Combat Support Hospital dental hygienist out of Vicenza, Italy, is the fifth member of the team. More
