50 Percent of Pharmaceutical Companies Employ Dedicated Counter-Generics Teams
Nearly 75 percent of surveyed Top 10 and Top 50 pharmaceutical companies use a dedicated counter-generics team structure, revealed a Cutting Edge Information study. Counter-generics teams, whether dedicated to the task or created as-needed for each project, are necessary for any pharmaceutical company facing a product’s patent expiration. The study, “Post-Patent Generic and Biosimilar Defense: Harnessing Competitive Tactics to Mitigate Revenue Erosion,” found that over half of all surveyed companies maintain a dedicated structure for counter-generics planning and implementation.

Pharmaceutical Firm Adding 230 Jobs

Catalent Pharma Solutions, which currently employs about 50 people at 10245 Hickman Mills Drive, has received a state job-training grant. It will assist Catalent’s plan to hire the 230 people, Rachel Wolf, Catalent’s human relations director, said Monday.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and Kansas City Mayor Sly James are to discuss the expansion at an event Tuesday afternoon at the 450,000-square-foot Catalent facility. The company is described as a global leader in the life sciences industry. The building is part of the former Marion Laboratories complex, which also includes the Cerner Innovation Campus.
Report: Pharma Sector Battling With Fraud Among Job Applicants
It's not just the U.S. Food & Drug Administration that the Indian pharmaceutical sector is wary of, but it has a rather unusual problem to deal with. A staggering 35 out of every 100 job applicants in the pharmaceutical or clinical trial space are lying about their credentials either by furnishing incorrect educational information or, what's even worse, creating fake companies, the highest among any other sector, according to a report released by AuthBridge, a Delhi-based employee screening firm.

To help life science organizations address these challenges and better target and engage with key healthcare audiences, Oracle announced Oracle Eloqua for Life Sciences.
Pharmaceutical Giants to Join US Initiative
Government researchers will collaborate with 10 large pharmaceutical companies on a $230-million initiative to speed development of new medications for major diseases, the U.S. National Institutes of Health announced.
The five-year initiative targets Alzheimer's Disease, Type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, and may be expanded to other ailments, the NIH said.
Immense Opportunities Await Indian Pharma Manufacturing Industry
Immense opportunities are waiting for the Indian pharmaceutical industry, both at the domestic and at the global level, and the future will be extremely promising with many more milestones, according to a research study conducted by Dr G Selvaraju, former director of drugs control, Tamil Nadu for the Vinayaka Mission University, Salem, Tamil Nadu.
While there are advantages to take pride in by the industry, there are also challenges to face with by the industry players and those hurdles need to be overcome in order to achieve sustainable growth in the future. Skilled workforce, low labour cost and opportunities for export are the major advantages of the Indian pharma industry, says the study.
Drug Firms Look to Gulf Region as Next Frontier

Pharmaceutical companies that specialize in diabetes are targeting the Persian Gulf for investment by forming local partnerships and eying the establishment of manufacturing facilities to cater to the millions of people forecast to develop the disease within the next two decades.
The region is one of the next frontiers for those drug companies that are looking for growth and have already invested in developing their businesses in the emerging markets of China, India, Russia and Brazil, consultants say.
Drug Shortages in US Have Tripled in 5 Years
Despite having a multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical industry, the United States has continued to struggle with a chronic shortage of important drugs that patients need.
The result has been a tripling in the number of annual drug shortages over the past five years.
In 2007, the number of drugs in short supply was 154.
That total soared to 456 by 2012, according to a new report (pdf) from the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
