Switching To Industry

The pharmaceutical industry offers pharmacists many opportunities to use their specialist skills in a variety of roles, from drug research and development through to sales and marketing. However, some pharmacists believe that they will be unable to secure a position in a pharmaceutical company without prior industry or research experience. Additionally, industry experts, such as Nick Lowen, commercial director for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), say that pharmacists are not always aware of the range of different jobs available in the industry.

What is the likelihood of feeling satisfied with your current career/job all of the time? If you said "not good," you would be right. Let me share some of the best advice with you about people, given to me by one of America's most decorated military heroes, David Christian. Back in 1993, Christian told me: "It is the nature of man to be discontent." It is true in everything, especially in a career.

Johnson & Johnson Could Bring 700 Jobs To Tampa Area
The Tampa Tribune
State and Hillsborough County officials are working on a taxpayer-funded incentive package aimed at luring the pharmaceutical and consumer goods giant Johnson & Johnson to add upwards of 700 jobs here that would pay an average annual wage of at least $75,000. The project would establish a North American “shared services headquarters operation” in the county, and could represent an investment by Johnson & Johnson of $23.5 million, county records say.

Novel Anticoagulants Target Cancer Patients With CVC

Anticoagulants have been traditionally used to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE), which is a major healthcare problem. For 25 percent of patients with pulmonary embolism, sudden death has been reported to be the initial clinical presentation. If death doesn't happen originally, the patients are treated with different anticoagulants in the emergency department. There is always the risk of bleeding due to too high of a dose of anticoagulants. At the same time, too little of them could lead to a recurrent thrombotic event.

Drug Companies Face Pressure Despite China Price Pledge

Global drug companies face tough going in China despite Beijing’s promise to lift pharmaceutical price controls, as stiff competition and a fierce bidding process continue to pressure prices. China’s leaders said Beijing would lift price controls on pharmaceuticals, a move long called for by drug companies and health experts to encourage both foreign and domestic firms to offer better drugs.

Teva Deal With G&W Saves Plant And 280 Jobs In Pennsylvania
FiercePharma
A Teva plant in Pennsylvania and hundreds of jobs have been spared the ax that the Israeli company has been swinging left and right as it cuts costs in the face of patent cliff issues. Instead, a family-owned business from New Jersey will acquire the Sellersville facility along with about two dozen drugs that are manufactured there. G&W Laboratories will get the plant and 25 drugs from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries ($TEVA) that G&W will sell in the U.S. under its own label.

Drug Company To Fill Vacant Building With 150 Jobs, $25M Investment
Cincinnati Business Courier
A Pennsylvania-based pharmaceutical company plans to open a manufacturing facility in Blue Ash, bringing 150 new jobs. Aprecia Pharmaceuticals Co. will invest $25 million in an existing building at 10901 Kenwood Road to expand its manufacturing operations. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 55 percent, eight-year job creation tax credit on a recent morning for Aprecia Pharmaceuticals.
