Recent high school graduates optimistic about value of college

Despite the rising costs of a college education, most recent high school graduates say that earning a college degree is worth the time and money, and most are optimistic that they and their peers will find
good jobs and careers.
That is the good news from a national survey of 1,500 graduates from the class of 2010 that was released Tuesday by the College Board, the nonprofit association that runs the SAT and Advanced Placement tests.

ACPA past president profile: May L. Cheney

May L. Cheney was a teacher appointment secretary at the University of California, Berkeley
and served as ACPA's first president. Cheney and eleven other appointment secretaries
attended the National
Association of Deans of Women meeting as special guests in 1923,
where the group of twelve met to discuss mutual concerns and to start a new organization,
the National Association of Appointment Secretaries — NAAS. In February 1924, Cheney
was elected the first president of NAAS, which is now known as ACPA.

Carnegie Mellon University has received a huge new pledge to expand its programs. The $265 million gift from former steel executive William S. Dietrich II is one of the largest in recent years from an
individual to a private university, and the largest in the school's history, officials told The Associated Press.

the option of a private university versus a public college is thrown into the mix, it can create an even greater whirlwind of dilemmas. Both public and private universities offer students different incentives, which can make the decision making process very difficult.
