Ocean Rig Athena to drill 3 wells offshore Senegal
FAR says the Cairn Energy-led partnership has contracted the drillship Ocean Rig Athena for three exploratory wells offshore Senegal. Two will appraise last year's deepwater SNE discovery to establish the field's size and commerciality as soon as possible. FAR estimates the minimum economic resources for a standalone development at around 200 MMbbl. The third well will be on a previously undrilled prospect — a commercial find could be tied back to a production hub on SNE.

Three possibilities are Bellatrix, Soleil and Sirius. The Bellatrix prospect is a yet to be drilled Buried Hills play that exhibits a strong seismic amplitude response, whereas Soleil and Sirius are the same play type as SNE.
