Save the Date: Facilities America 2011 to be held October 11-12 in Las Vegas
Be sure and save the date: October 11-12, 2011. That's when AFE will host Facilities America at the Mirage Hotel Events Center in Las Vegas. The Mirage Hotel Events Center will hold all of Facilities America's educational sessions, plus AFE Board and Committee meetings and the AFE Awards Gala. The Mirage Hotel will also serve as the headquarters hotel.
A Call for Presenters will go out in early February for recruitment. All submissions are due to AFE by March 31, 2011.

Shoppers warm to geothermal heat at London shopping center

Europe's largest heat pump system recently came online at London's latest shopping centre One New Change, sparking hopes that shops and offices across the capital could soon deploy the low-carbon technology. More than 150 meters beneath city shoppers' Jimmy Choos, some 60 meters of pipes are constantly transferring heat to and from an underground aquifer, providing a source of natural heating and cooling for the shopping centre. FedEx delivers first LEED building

All of FedEx Express's new U.S. facilities will be LEED certified, the company said after unveiling the first example in its new structure in Las Vegas. LEED certification, which was established by the U.S. Green Building Council, uses several criteria to verify that a residential or commercial building was created using environmentally sensitive strategies. The construction must also demonstrate efficient use of resources such as water and energy. More

Siemens chooses Hull for wind turbine plant

German engineering conglomerate Siemens has selected Associated British Port's (ABP) Hull development to build what will be Britain's first major offshore wind turbine manufacturing plant. Siemens' proposed plant will also create about 700 jobs and the news will be a boost for Hull. More
