AFE urges members to attend National Commercial Building Energy Guidelines Conference in Colorado

The Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory have asked AFE leadership to invite members to attend a 3-day conference in Denver. These agencies singled out AFE because they know our members have the practical, hands-on experience with HVAC systems, air handlers and other systems that can help the federal government formulate the future of America's energy policy related to commercial buildings. This body of knowledge also will be used by GSA and DOE to help meet the requirements of the Federal Buildings Personnel Training Act of 2010. Interested individuals are invited to submit their credentials by clicking on the link below and filling out the form. Reimbursement for travel costs up to a fixed amount, a travel per diem and an honorarium will be awarded to individuals selected for participation.

The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board has identified more than 60 fatalities since 1990 due to explosions and fires from hot work activities on tanks. Hot work is defined as "work involving burning, welding or a similar operation that is capable of initiating fires or explosions." Wind turbines to generate power for new University of North Texas football stadium

The University of North Texas has received a $2 million grant from the State Energy Conservation Office to install three wind turbines that will feed the electrical grid that provides power to UNT's new football stadium and other buildings along the west side of campus. The stadium, which will open in September, is the first collegiate stadium designed to incorporate onsite renewable energy. The turbines are expected to be installed by the end of the year. More
