Solar becomes single largest source of new grid capacity in US
Electric Light & Power
For the first time, solar energy accounted for all new utility electricity generation capacity added to the U.S. grid in March, according to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's March 2013 "Energy Infrastructure Update." More than 44 megawatts of solar electric capacity was brought online from seven projects in California, Nevada, New Jersey, Hawaii, Arizona and North Carolina. All other energy sources combined added no new generation.

Tricks of the trade: Credential management
Today's Facility Manager
Q: Most of the projects I have worked on have been new construction planning/completion. My question is this: Should I take the CFM (Certified Facility Manager) prep exam or FMP (Facility Management Professional)? I am not sure which I am ready to tackle at this point in my career. I am leaning more toward the FMP credential, because I have more construction design/build tasks, with a facility management (FM) title. I am pretty sure I would benefit from that credential and would be able to take the CFM next year with the FMP certification. Any advice or shared experience would be appreciated.

Breathe easy?
EDC Magazine
The American Lung Association's "State of the Air 2013" report was released April 24, and finds that air quality nationwide continues the long-term trend to much healthier air. There was significant progress in the reduction of year-round particle pollution (soot) across the nation, but many cities that ranked among the most polluted had more unhealthy days of high ozone (smog) and short-term particle pollution than in the 2012 report.
