Understanding whether a 'critical operation' is really critical

The term "critical operations" has become an enigma in today's business world. The definition differs from one organization to the next, and even within the same company. For example, managers of departments or business units often think their most important operations are critical, but that's often untrue. What's more, when asked to identify the critical operation, most people will identify systems and components rather than identifying the true critical operation required to support the business.

OSHA issues guidance on transgender bathroom access

Transgender employees should have access to the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity, according to the Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's new guidance it issued for employers. The National Center for Transgender Equality requested OSHA develop the four-page Guide to Restroom Access for Transgender Workers to ensure transgender employees are able to work in a manner that is consistent with how they live the rest of their daily lives.

Antea Group has released the survey results on technology professionals' opinions and knowledge about environment, health and safety and what they say might surprise you. The survey has found a conflict between values and behaviors among employees. Two-thirds of workers say they value a safe, secure workplace, but more than half would not intervene if they saw an unsafe act.

Survey reveals businesses are facing a 'sustainability crunch'

Businesses are finding it increasingly more difficult to implement and manage sustainability policies, according to research by the British Institute of Facilities Management. The annual BIFM Sustainability Survey, now in its ninth year, reveals a 20 percent decline in confidence among businesses in their ability to implement and manage their environmental, sustainability and CSR policies compared to 2014.
