Only week remain before thousands of facilities professionals arrive in Las Vegas for the combined Facilities America and Facility Decisions Conference and Expo. Facilities professionals from across the country have been registering in record numbers for the event to be held Oct. 11-12, at the Mirage Hotel Events Center. The number of registrants for Facilities America 2011 is outpacing last year's record, when nearly 2,000 participants and exhibitors attended. Facilities America provides attendees with the opportunity to share notes, experiences and lessons learned from colleagues, educators, subject experts, exhibitors and government representatives. More than 70 free educational sessions will be led by the industry's most-respected experts on indoor air quality, water quality, energy efficiency, building retro-commissioning and other essential topics for today's facilities professionals. AFE has announced that Joel Leonard, known worldwide as the "Maintenance Evangelist," has accepted AFE's invitation to lead a CPMM class at Fayetteville Technical Community College from Aug. 22-24. For many facilities engineers, summer time is the perfect time to improve their professional knowledge and career status with AFE's popular CPMM (Certified Plant Maintenance Manager) Review Class, one of three AFE Certifications that studies show can help facilities professionals earn an average of $7,000 a year more than their uncertified peers. "Things are often a little more relaxed in summer, so many facilities professionals are able to take a few days to improve their jobs skills and enhance their career," said Leonard, who has been interviewed several times by National Public Radio to share his expertise in facilities management and training. "After earning your CPMM, you can reward yourself by driving to world famous North Carolina beaches and mountains, which are each only a few hours from Fayetteville." Facilities America and Certification scholarships available

There is still time to apply for Facilities American and Certification scholarships before the Aug. 15 deadline. The scholarships are available to enable facility professionals, associates and educators who may not otherwise be able to attend Facilities America or a face-to-face AFE certification training and testing program. Applications for both the Facilities America and AFE Certification grants must be post-marked by Aug. 15. Applicants will be notified of results by email. More
