The Capital Area Chapter of AFE is having a meet and membership drive on the Potomac on Aug. 26. The boat launches from behind the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria at 7 p.m. and will return to the dock at 9. Join us for free food and drinks. Bring a nonmember and if he or she joins you'll get an instant $50, or bring your significant other for some food, drinks and a relaxing evening. AFE President Denny Hydrick and our Executive Director Wayne Saya will be on board to meet all. The boat holds only 125 people so RSVP now to guarantee a spot. Beyond energy efficiency
For the longest time, electricity sales and consumption went hand in hand with economic growth. In the last several years, not so much. Electricity retail sales peaked at 3.77 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2008, dropped in 2008 and 2010, recovered a bit in 2011, and fell in each of the next two years. The 2013 total of 3.69 trillion kilowatt-hours was down 2 percent from 2008.
