ARTINFO    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The infrastructure in AECOM's master plan is smartly designed, with built-in means to collect and recycle rainwater and a transportation network that provides separate channels for spectators and athletes. But the focus of the project is not to construct a shimmering image of Brazil during its highly publicized two weeks of glory next summer, but to stimulate long-term change in Rio through the multibillion-dollar Olympic build-out. How small-town America cuts energy costs
Government Technology    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Used in conjunction with efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, plus new lighting and other energy-saving equipment, smart building technologies are helping some local governments cut energy consumption and reduce costs. Smaller cities and counties — even those with scarce resources — may realize these savings by cutting utility bills and better managing the maintenance of building equipment. More

Data shows Brazil's wind energy market is wide open for business
AOL Energy    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Blessed with abundant surface water resources and a considerable amount of associated hydroelectric power, Brazil has lots of renewable energy, and a lot of room to generate additional power from renewable sources like wind and solar. Brazil is the world's second largest hydro power consumer behind China, but a sharp contrast between wet and dry seasons — along with occasional droughts — has driven the country to import LNG in recent years to supplement its energy security. LEED Green Associate: What are the financial advantages of earning the credential?
Green-Buildings.com    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Q: What are the advantages of LEED GA exam, as far as finance is concerned? How it is profitable financially?
A: I understand your concern about the "payoff" of the Green Associate, because the exam and credential maintenance fees can add up. Theses costs are not insignificant, so the LEED Green Associate credential should produce tangible benefits. While there is no direct financial gain for becoming a LEED Green Associate, there are two potential monetary benefits: it can boost your earning potential by furthering your green building career, and your knowledge could contribute to savings on building projects.

Green building sparks battle for the built environment
Forbes    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The explosive growth in green buildings over the past decade is flattening the built environment. Green buildings' emphasis on integrated design and whole-building performance has accelerated the convergence of these silos into a single platform, transforming a fragmented, vertical value chain into an integrated, horizontal value chain. Simply put, the building management business is becoming flat and doing so fast. More

Energy efficiency goes hands-free
Electric Co-op Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
What if your electric cooperative had a simple, hands-free way to get commercial members to shed load on peak days? Sound good? It's possible with automated demand response, or AutoDR. With traditional demand response, a co-op works out an agreement with a commercial account. On peak days when use is highest — along with energy prices — the member is asked to take certain actions.
