These certifications offer a wide array of training that will increase your aptitude and abilities as a leader. But this isn’t the only reason to get AFE certified. The Home Office, AFE 168, has launched their event season with AFE Day at Old Dominion University and the AFE Connects DC Happy Hour: Game Night.
AFE Day is an outreach event with a focus on students and young professionals on college and university campuses. This event gives advice about mentorship, expectations in the field, Q&A and allows for networking with our panel of certified and tenured experts. We have social media interactions with live streams and forums on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages. We have a booth in the Engineering colleges to allow those who could not attend the panel to still have information about our organization. We are planning more AFE Day events.
A recorded version of the last Panel is here: https://bit.ly/2Anrr04.
Special Thanks to:
Our incredible and insightful panelists:
- Kenny Walker
- Dainan Gibson
Old Dominion University students and staff:
- Our very own, Emma Patterson, who created the event.
- Doctor Yoon for your assistance making this event match our vision
- Mrs. Sanders for making sure to invite all the students and making connections.
- The American Society for Engineering Management, who sponsored our organization for this venue.
If you are interested in partnering with AFE for our events or being on our panels; reach out to the Marketing Manager at: TMartin@afe.org.

It’s no longer enough for a window, door or other building component to simply perform its primary function. Instead, not only must each element of the facility be functional, well-constructed and attractive, it must also demonstrate return on investment by contributing to the achievement of additional business objectives of the facility organization.

For many commercial tenants, negotiating a good lease or lease renewal against an experienced agent or landlord can be a challenge. While an entrepreneur focuses on marketing and managing his own business, savvy real estate agents and brokers are specialized sales people. Their job is to sell tenants on leasing their location at the highest possible rental rate.
Tenants may go through the leasing process only two or three times in their entire lifetime — yet they have to negotiate against seasoned professionals who negotiate leases every day for a living.

Running an air-conditioning unit at full tilt to cool down one part of a building while a boiler blazes away to heat another part of that same building seems senseless — but it's surprisingly common in New Zealand's commercial buildings.
Wasting energy at such large volumes is not only bad for the environment, it's bad for business.
