China's energy-efficiency mandate
Forbes.com    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
China's continued economic growth is one reason why it is now a larger energy consumer than the United States. Another, though, is the fact that the country has a long way to go in terms of energy efficiency. Fatih Birol, Chief Economist at the International Energy Agency, said recently: "In 2000, the U.S. consumed twice as much energy as China, now China consumes more than the U.S." He went on to note that the U.S. had improved its energy efficiency by 2.5 percent annually during that time, while China managed only a 1.7 percent annual improvement. Remodeling slows down
Constructech Magazine    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
With the economy remaining in a somewhat uncertain position, homeowners are putting off making improvement to their houses. At least that seems to be the situation indicated by a recent report. The latest Nation Assn. of Home Builders (NAHB), Wasshington, D.C., Remodeling Market Index (RMI), shows that the remodeling market lost steam during the second quarter of 2010. The RMI decreased to 40.7 from 47.9 in the first quarter. The RMI measures market demand for current and future residential remodeling projects and any number below 50 indicates that more remodelers think conditions are getting worse rather than improving.
