Design for Health and Hope: A Special Event at the National Building Museum
ASID
Join ASID at the National Building Museum for Design for Health and Hope on Thursday, April 2, from 6:30–8 p.m. Tamara Cavin, IIDA, and David Cordell, ASID, of Perkins+Will, will discuss the recently-opened Conway Health and Resource Center at Community of Hope in Bellevue, which provides homeless and underserved families in Washington, D.C., with resources to become healthy, stably-housed, well-educated, and financially secure. Cavin and Cordell will explore the importance of the evidence-based generative space interior design principles utilized at the LEED Silver center, which include maximum daylighting and flexible "universal" rooms to accommodate myriad clinical functions and patient demographics.

Each chapter can make a significant contribution to reaching this landmark goal. Take the First Step to Leadership at the 2015 Design to Lead Summit

The 2015 Design to Lead Summit will provide the next generation of design leaders with the education needed to succeed as they take on next step management roles. Attendees will gain an introduction to key leadership competencies and expand their networks from the diverse experiences of experts via keynotes, panel discussions, interactive breaks, and a closing reception. The one-day summit will take place Monday, April 13, in Washington, D.C. Speakers include Don Blanchon, Executive Director of Whitman-Walker Health, Reed Kroloff, principal of jones|kroloff, and Toni Griffin, Founding Director of the J. Max Bond Center on Design for the Just City at the City College of New York. They, along with other thought leaders, will share their journeys to leadership success. Design Competitions: Fair or Unfair?

Love them or hate them, design competitions elicit strong emotions from design professionals. But very little hard data exists to guide the people who enter them, or those who organize them. The New York–based organization Van Allen Institute, in partnership with Architectural Record, is launching a Design Competition Survey to formally identify those pros and cons. The survey also invites suggestions to improve the practice. The survey is open to all design professionals in the world who have participated in a competition.
