ASID IDBI Report: Solid 1st Quarter Business Conditions for Design Firms
ASID
The ASID Interior Design Billings Index (IDBI) for the first quarter of 2015 reveals that business conditions at design industry firms have improved and picked up momentum. The March ASID IDBI value of 57.7 (50 and above denotes growth) increased from a fourth quarter 2014 score of 52.3, and the March New Project Inquiry rate of 58.8 continues the positive trend.

The pace of billings for sole practitioners increased from a fourth quarter score of 48 to a first quarter score of 52.6, and small-sized firms of less than 10 employees reported increased billings over the quarter as well. Firms in the West, South, and Midwest regions all reported solid growth in billings in the first quarter, but business conditions remained weak for firms located in the Northeast as they continue to report a decline.

Home Depot to Eliminate Phthalates from Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl floors are practical and relatively inexpensive. But they are also full of phthalates. According to Bill Walsh of the Healthy Building Network, Home Depot has agreed to eliminate phthalates from all the vinyl flooring it sells by the end of the year. He notes that architects and designers have been trying to use fewer PVC products with phthalates for a while, but this is a big step from the big box.

Secrets of the World's Best Hotel Beds

According to a 2014 Gallup survey, more than half of guests who stay in the highest-priced properties said they would pay more for an improved bed.
