ASID Staff Tests New Ways of Working at WeWork

The ASID board of directors and staff hosted an open house recently to show off their transitional workspace at WeWork Chinatown for members of the D.C. design community. ASID has been working from WeWork for three months now, and they expect to be there for the next year, until the new headquarters is ready. Randy Fiser, ASID's executive vice president and chief executive officer, said the interim office solution means his staff gets to experience the future of the workplace firsthand.

Architecture Billings Index Climbs in June

The design and construction industry is on the rise, according to figures reported by the AIA's Architecture Billings Index. The June ABI score was 53.5, up from a mark of 52.6 in May, marking the second consecutive month of growth. "With the first positive reading since last summer in billings at institutional firms, it appears that design activity for all major segments of the building industry is growing," said AIA chief economist Kermit Baker.

After a disappointing first quarter, the remodeling industry bounced back in the second quarter of 2014, with notable month-over-month gains. Current projections indicate that trend will continue into the second half of the year, with the industry as a whole experiencing a substantial year-over-year increase. Improved weather conditions, employment figures and home sales helped boost remodeling activity in the second quarter. All the major indexes reported increased activity.
