ASID index: Good and getting better

The interior design industry has experienced 10 consecutive months of positive performance across sectors, according to a new report from the American Society of Interior Designers. Results from the most recent ASID Interior Design Billings and Inquiries Index for the second quarter of 2012 indicate continued positive growth for the industry with an overall index of 56.5. Also on a positive note, firms are hearing more and more about potential projects. More

Sex, architecture and design have a lot to do with each other. And nowhere have they been such good bedfellows as on the pages of Playboy magazine, says Beatriz Colomina, a professor at the Princeton University School of Architecture who has been studying the connection for the past three years. BIFMA adjusts forecast for flat 2012

Office furniture makers are now looking at a relatively flat year for 2012, followed by modest growth in 2013, according to an updated industry outlook from BIFMA. The organization projects North American shipment growth of just 1.1 percent for this year, followed by a 2.9-percent increase next year. That represents a downgrade from the previous outlook that projected growth of 3.4 percent this year and 6.7 percent in 2013. More

Confidence among U.S. homebuilders rose in September to its highest level in six years, and many expect the housing recovery will strengthen in the next six months. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index increased to 40 in September.
