Survey on Interior Design Education
A graduate student, and ASID member, is conducting a survey about interior design master's degrees, for part of a thesis project. The
purpose of her research is to evaluate the perceptions and value of getting a master's degree in interior design, when it is not required to practice.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. If you would like to participate, please
Hot, cold, and filtered water. ROHL's new Integrated Faucet Filtration Solution represents a major paradigm shift in the way designers and consumers think about filtered water. This innovative system eliminates a separate filter faucet, has a clean installation, and

Americans aged 55 and older, members of the Baby
Boom generation, would prefer suburban, single-story residences with amenities that provide a convenient living experience, such as high-speed Internet access (a favorite feature) for their later years, according to a recent survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the MetLife Mature Market Institute. Sixty-two percent of households have at least one pet, according to the American Pet Products Association. Half of them consider their pets "just as much a part of the family" as others in the household, according to a 2009 Roper poll. So including pet-friendly home features makes sense. Among the amenities popular with pet owners are dog showers, Dutch doors and extra wide window sills(favored by napping cats). More
The AIA's Architecture Billings Index (ABI) for August was little changed from July. Conditions at firms are better now than they were last winter, but a recovery is not yet imminent. Inquiries remain relatively strong. However, architecture firms continue to report that clients are shopping projects around, meaning that firms are
seeing many inquiries but few are translating into actual billable work. The tight credit market has stalled new project starts. More

A new book extolling the design trend of the past several years--a
recreated, embellished vintage look incorporating brick, iron, wood, velvet, and fur--at last christens a genre of interior design seen from New York to Paris. Dark Nostalgia, by Eva Hagberg for The Monacelli Press, presents 26 projects that play upon the theme: a modern interpretation of an idealized past. More
Even though prospective homebuyers want the benefits of new and more efficient homes, they are unwilling to pay much more for a "green" home, according to a recent member survey from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). "Although we are seeing significant interest in green building, cost effectiveness is clearly a key
concern among buyers," says NAHB Chairman Joe Robson. "Builders said that among buyers who are willing to pay more for green features, more than half— 57 percent—are unlikely to pay more than an additional two percent." More
Awe-inspiring design may not
grow on trees, but it sure can dress up walls! Last year, architecture and product design group Nendo Studio completed the renovation of this gorgeous Moss House private residence in the Ebisu area of Tokyo, Japan. Taking inspiration from the plant life that scales the walls lining the nearby Shibuya River, the Nendo designers used dried moss to cover the interior walls with vine-like patterns. This custom wall treatment has a vivid color, a rich textural quality, and gives the starck white
corridors a sense that the are alive.More
