New Research: How Lighting, Color Impact Design

All designers work with color and light. As we approach the darkest day of the year, now is a good time to remember just how important light is to our health and well-being. Recently published research on light and lighting confirms that, perhaps more than any other element in a space, light has a profound effect on how design impacts occupants. These studies provide further insight into how color and light can be used to enhance brain function and mood, thus improving occupants' quality of life.

ASID CEU Deadline Is Dec. 31!
ASID
By Dec. 31, 2013, all ASID professional, allied and associate members must have met their continuing education requirement of 0.6 CEU as indicated in the ASID Bylaws. During the first week of January 2014, the ASID Member Engagement and Membership departments will receive reports from the Interior Design Continuing Education Council listing all ASID members and the number of CEUs each member has reported. Federal Agency Approves Choice for Green Building Certification

The General Service Administration, a.k.a. the nation's landlord, is recommending for the first time that federal agencies be given a choice of green building certification systems for new construction and major renovation projects. In a decision drawing cheers and jeers, GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini endorsed the Green Building Initiatives' Green Globes 2010 system, in addition to the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design 2009.
