Builder    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Jan. 22, 2010 issue: As lifestyle choices, demographics, and economic realities shift home buyer preferences, more and more buyers are turning their backs on the McMansion and demanding smaller homes. But no matter the reason, smaller does not—and cannot—mean sacrificing style, amenities, and, ironically enough, space. More

14. Realtors turn to designers to help sell apartments
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Oct. 8, 2010 issue: During the real estate boom, eager buyers bought apartments requiring enormous imagination to picture as homes: They bought unbuilt apartments or empty spaces with blank walls. Today, buyers are much less likely to take risks on apartments where they cannot figure out how to fit in their sofa bed or sideboard. So brokers have been redecorating old model units or filling unfurnished apartments. More

15. Affluent consumers maintain spending despite slow economy
Luxury Daily    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nov. 12, 2010 issue: According to a recent study conducted by the American Affluence Research Center, the nation's most well-heeled consumers do not plan to cut back on their spending, despite expressing a negative outlook about the economy in general. Luxury brands and luxury marketers should be focused on the wealthiest one percent because they are the least likely to be cutting back and are the most knowledgeable about the price points and brands that are true high-end luxury. A surprising finding is that there is a good interest in buying or building a new home. More

Sept. 10, 2010 issue: Given the circumstances in today's market, is it time to change the path of interior design education entirely? That is the question guest blogger Stacy Straczynski put to the readers of Contract magazine. She cites the example of one recent A&D grad who points out that employers are not willing to pay new designers with degrees a livable wage and that many paths are open to becoming a designer. More
