The sparkling eyes of Caroline Beteta, president and CEO of the California Travel and Tourism Commission, shine with ideas and passion to promote California and the United States. As a native Californian, she was eager to share her favorite places with future visitors to the state. "From a city perspective, I like the west side of Los Angeles out to the coast. Great beaches and surfing mixed with exceptional dining and a little celebrity. People will feel like walking on a set of a television show,” Beteta said in an interview with The Korea Times. Tourists flock to the Central Coast in droves each year to enjoy the area’s most profitable resource: our state parks. While the destination is ultimately a place such as Pismo State Beach, Oceano Dunes State Recreational Vehicle Area, La Purisima Mission in Lompoc or Hearst Castle in San Simeon, tourists and residents are staying at hotels, eating at local restaurants, stocking up on supplies and filling up the gas tank in Central Coast cities. Taking on review sites
Hotel Interactive    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In today’s online-obsessed culture, every guest is a critic and every hotel faces a bad review from time to time. Even the famed Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris does not have a perfect score on TripAdvisor. But a recent email campaign from TripAdvisor went too far, according to Chris Emmins, co-founder of the U.K.0-based reputation management site KiwkChex. The e-mail, with the subject line "Don’t go there. Hotel Horror Stories!" singled out a dozen hotels and linked to a terrible review for each of them. More

The recent collapse of a key tourism marketing organization in the North County has given rise to disparate efforts from hoteliers and others across the area to find unique ways to promote destination tourism. Over the past month or so, the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau has laid off its staff of about a dozen - including its well-connected director Cami Mattson, who ran the operation for nearly a quarter of a century. A vote for desert protection is a vote for tourism
The Desert Sun    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's no secret that the city of Palm Springs, surrounded by the craggy peaks of San Jacinto National Monument and the dense pine forest of the San Bernardino National Forest, has long been a popular tourist destination. While Palm Springs is rich in both natural areas and cultural opportunities, it's hard to predict when, where and how many visitors will come to this area, especially during challenging economic times. However, one thing we are certain of is that the creation of the Sand to Snow National Monument through Sen. Dianne Feinstein's California Desert Protection Act of 2010 would enhance Palm Springs as a tourist destination, create revenue for businesses and help the city realize its goal of becoming a sustainable city.
