Destination council prepares for new era

Tourists flock to the Central Coast in droves each year to enjoy the area’s most profitable resource: our state parks. In today’s online-obsessed culture, every guest is a critic and every hotel faces a bad review from time to time. Even the famed Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris does not have a perfect score on TripAdvisor. But a recent email campaign from TripAdvisor went too far, according to Chris Emmins, co-founder of the U.K.0-based reputation management site KiwkChex. The e-mail, with the subject line "Don’t go there. Hotel Horror Stories!" singled out a dozen hotels and linked to a terrible review for each of them. More

Terra Resort Group, the Jackson Hole, Wyo.,-based hotel management company and MetWest Ventures, the Los Angeles-based investment firm, have formed a new company, MetWest Terra Hospitality. The new company will manage an exclusive collection of properties in Wyoming, California, Vermont and Florida, and is actively pursuing new hotels to add to the group. Tourism officials scramble for footing in listless economy

Over the past month or so, the San Diego North Convention & Visitors Bureau has laid off its staff of about a dozen - including its well-connected director Cami Mattson, who ran the operation for nearly a quarter of a century. It's no secret that the city of Palm Springs, surrounded by the craggy peaks of San Jacinto National Monument and the dense pine forest of the San Bernardino National Forest, has long been a popular tourist destination. While Palm Springs is rich in both natural areas and cultural opportunities, it's hard to predict when, where and how many visitors will come to this area, especially during challenging economic times. However, one thing we are certain of is that the creation of the Sand to Snow National Monument through Sen. Dianne Feinstein's California Desert Protection Act of 2010 would enhance Palm Springs as a tourist destination, create revenue for businesses and help the city realize its goal of becoming a sustainable city. More
