Health care reform: Changes to flexible spending arrangements CMAA Share    
The Internal Revenue Service has issued guidance reflecting statutory changes regarding the use of certain tax-favored arrangements, such as flexible spending arrangements, to pay for over-the-counter medicines and drugs. Under the new standard, the cost of an over-the-counter medicine or drug cannot be reimbursed from the account unless a prescription is obtained. A similar rule goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2011, for Health Savings Accounts and Archer Medical Savings Accounts. More 2011 membership renewals CMAA Share

A U.S. District Court judge has ruled that 20 states can move forward with a lawsuit challenging the legality of the Obama administration's health-care reform legislation. The decision by Florida Northern District Judge Roger Vinson is not unexpected, as he told Justice Department officials that he would block efforts to have the lawsuit dismissed during a September hearing.
