Georgia Senate OKs More Leeway in 'Design-Build' Contracts

From Feb. 28, 2013: The Georgia Senate unanimously approved legislation aimed at speeding up transportation projects. The bill would expand the Georgia Department of Transportation's ability to use the "design-build" method of planning and constructing transportation projects.

Colorado DOT Selects Team for US 6 Design-Build Safety and Mobility Project

From May 16, 2013: The Colorado Department of Transportation has selected the team of Felsburg Holt & Ullevig and Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. for the US 6 design-build project that will reconstruct 6th Ave. from Knox Court to just east of I-25, replace five bridges that are either structurally deficient or functionally obsolete and improve the Federal Boulevard/US 6 interchange.

California High-Speed Rail Bidding Rules Were Changed

From April 25, 2013: California high-speed rail officials acknowledged recently that they changed their rules for selecting a builder for the bullet train's first phase in the Central Valley, a shift that subsequently made it possible for a consortium led by Sylmar-based Tutor Perini to be ranked as the top candidate despite receiving the lowest technical rating.

Four Teams Shortlisted for LaGuardia Terminal Building Replacement in New York

From Aug. 15, 2013: Four teams have been selected to compete for a $2.4-billion project to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the LaGuardia Airport Central Terminal Building (CBT), says a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman. PANYNJ will conduct $1.2 billion in infrastructure upgrades in addition to the project, he says.
