The Youth Hunt Factor from Wildfowl Sunset is coming to the future of waterfowl hunting. Don't believe it? Just look at the statistics. About 2.5 million Americans over the age of 16 hunted ducks and geese in 1996. Ten years later, that
number plummeted to 1.3 million, an astonishing 48 percent decline. The end may be even closer in Canada, where there are 70 percent fewer duck and goose hunters than just 10 years ago. It's an alarming trend -- one with sweeping consequences to future waterfowl and habitat conservation efforts. More
Popular Lottery Program Raises Big Bucks
from The Palestine Herald-Press
Texas Parks and Wildlife is
always looking for ways to make Texas a better place to hunt and fish. Sometimes it pays to step outside the traditional box. The department made a particularly good investment towards the future of hunting in 1996 when it launched an innovative lottery promotion that offered participants high quality hunting trips as prizes instead of cash. Acting on an idea hatched by Kirby Brown, former TPWD program director for private lands and public hunting, the department secured a series of big game
hunts and placed them up for grabs in a winner-take-all package called the Texas Grand Slam. More

Social Networking Site Lets Hunters Share Shots
from The Missoulian
You've seen the
brag boards in local hook-and-bullet shops, the places where people post photos of the deer they shot, the fish they caught, the elk or moose they bagged. But like everything else, you can't take them with you. You can't cart around an album of a lifetime afield to share your shots with friends and fellow hunters around the world. Until now. "Now," says founder Zachary Pitts, "you can take them anywhere, anytime, anyplace with an Internet connection." From the basement of his in-laws' house in
Kalispell, Mont., Pitts and two friends have launched what could well be the world's first Facebook for fishermen. Think My(hunting)Space. The call it NoNameOutdoors.com, after that famous drainage where you shot that big bull elk (on No Name Mountain), and that favorite fishing hole (on No Name Creek). More

Oklahoma will become the 29th state to allow bear hunting when the season opens October 1. Hunters will be able to hunt black

Hunting is limited to Latimer, Le Flore, McCurtain and Pushmataha counties. In those counties, residents say bears have become a nuisance, disturbing the populace and getting into trash. More
