FERC files Supreme Court challenge to demand-response decision
    Greentech Media

House votes to speed natural gas pipelines
    The Hill
The House passed legislation on Jan. 21 to expedite the federal review process for natural gas pipeline applications. Passed 253-169, the bill would allow automatic approval of natural gas pipelines if federal agencies don't act within a certain timeframe. Under the measure, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission would be ordered to approve or deny a pipeline application within 12 months. Agencies responsible for issuing licenses or permits must act within 90 days after FERC issues a final environmental review, though the deadline could be extended by 30 days if the agency demonstrates it can't finish in time.

    Bluefield Daily Telegraph
A bill that would repeal a 2009 law that mandates utility companies get 25 percent of their production materials from sources other than coal by 2025 was passed by the West Virginia State Senate unanimously recently, with debate only on an amendment to the bill. Senate Democrats attempted to amend the bill to include a study by the legislative auditor on the repeal's net effect on jobs and utility rates.

Murkowski: New energy chairwoman has Alaska-sized plans
    Alaska Dispatch News
When Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski called for an end to the longstanding U.S. ban on crude exports last January, the Alaskan was entering uncharted territory. No policymaker had seriously questioned the wisdom of the ban since it was imposed after the 1973 OPEC oil embargo. So Murkowski set out to tackle it methodically and deliberately, eschewing bombast and loud press conferences for closed-door meetings with administration officials and white papers that examined every facet of the trade restrictions. She even drafted a roadmap for administration officials to undo the ban.
