EBA Primer: Environmental Law
An EBA Primer focused on Environmental Law will take place on June 25-26, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia. The goal of the primer is to provide an overview of environmental law, principally at the federal level. The course explains environmental law practice before the relevant agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, including the rulemaking process and "sue and settle," the appeals process, and enforcement and litigation. This course is intended for new energy lawyers practicing environmental law and energy transaction lawyers who need an overview of environmental laws and regulations.

Senate panel launches energy reform effort
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will formally kick off its efforts toward comprehensive energy policy reform soon, while the House Energy and Commerce Committee continues its own reform efforts.
The Senate Energy panel will host a hearing May 14 on 17 bills that Chairwoman Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said recently could make up a comprehensive package.

When the energy ministers of the G7 countries met in Rome last May, the Russian assault on Eastern Ukraine was in full swing. Europe and its allies were focused on energy security, an obvious preoccupation given the importance of Ukraine as a transit country for natural gas supplies to Europe. With that background, the ministers made an ambitious pledge to embark on a "step change to improve energy security at national, regional, and global levels."

Utility energy-efficiency bill signed into Indiana law

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has signed a new law to reduce state oversight of the energy-efficiency programs of major utilities. Pence approved a measure May 6 to allow major utility companies to develop their own efficiency programs and charge customers to implement them. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will have final approval over the programs. Supporters say companies should have the flexibility to choose their own programs, which help decrease electricity use and save ratepayers money.
