The program has been branded INNOtech, as it combines innovation and technology. It features high-profile speakers on the topics that matter most — safety, operational excellence and mill planning.

One of the world's most venerable building materials could soon become increasingly prevalent in the construction of large-scale structures due to its rising cost competitiveness and intrinsic sustainability benefits. According to Perry Forsythe, professor of construction management at the University of Technology Sydney, new research indicates that timber is an economical building material for large-scale building projects as long as the right conditions for its usage are in place.

US wood pellet exports rose in 4th quarter

Exportation of wood pellets from North America to Europe and Asia reached an all-time high, rising 22 percent in 2014 from the previous year, according to the North American Wood Fiber Review. Shipments from the U.S. were up 40 percent year over year, while Canada exported 6 percent less in 2014 than in 2013.

Washington state congressman launches group to bring timber, environmental groups together

Washington state Congressman Derek Kilmer presided at the official launch of an effort to put environmental and logging interests on a single, mutually beneficial path while harvesting for profit — and preserving for future generations — in the Olympic National Forest. The two sectors, often on opposite sides of the debate over forest practices and preservation, have joined together in the Olympic Peninsula Collaborative, spearheaded by Kilmer.

Today, though, those sights are bittersweet. As part of a divorce settlement, he may have to log this second-growth forest, leaving thousands of stumps where trees have stood for three generations.
