What influences someone to join a nonprofit association? According to a 2012 association study, recommendations from advisers, colleagues, experts, families and friends have the most influence on a person's decision to join an association. In fact, 32 percent of association members state that they joined based on the recommendation of another person, with 14 percent receiving recommendations from families and friends. Another 14 percent received recommendations from colleagues and 6 percent from advisers and experts.
