Pifzer cancer drug hits BioPlus' shelves

Consumer confidence heads back up in February

After decreasing in January, this month's Consumer Confidence Index rose by a healthy 9.3 points to 70.8. The jump brought the index close to its 72.0 reading from last February. Lynn Franco, director of the Consumer Research Center of The Conference Board, which compiles the monthly indicator, said, "Consumers are considerably less pessimistic about current business and labor market conditions than they were in January." The economy grew at a slightly faster pace in the final three months of last year, and Americans earned more income than previously reported. That could set the stage for stronger growth this year. Kroger records Q4 record net loss despite boost in total, same-store sales

Despite recording an increase in total and identical-store sales during fourth quarter 2011, Kroger reported a net loss due to costs associated with consolidating its pension plan for union workers. The grocer, whose banners include Kroger, Ralphs and Food 4 Less, said the loss of $306.9 million, or 54 cents per share, compared with a profit of $278.8 million in the year-ago period. More

Publix Super Markets Inc. has posted sales for the fourth quarter of 2011, a 14-week period, of $7.2 billion, a 13.4 percent rise from last year's $6.4 billion, a 13-week period. The extra week in the fourth quarter of 2011 resulted in a 7.6 percent sales increase, according to the Lakeland, Fla.,-based company. More

P&G expands job cuts as part of new $10 million cost savings program
