Nash Finch to buy Nebraska grocery chain Bag 'N Save

Edina-based Nash Finch Co. said recently that it has agreed to buy Omaha supermarket chain Bag 'N Save, increasing its retail grocery store portfolio by about 25 percent. Publicly-traded Nash Finch, which is primarily a food wholesaler, didn't disclose the price for Bag 'N Save, a family owned chain with 11 stores in Omaha and one outlet in York, Neb. More

Rite Aid comps increase 3.1 percent in February

Rite Aid same-store sales increased by 3.1 percent in February, including a 1.9 percent increase in front-end comps and a 3.7 percent increase in pharmacy comps, the company said recently. The Bloomberg Consumer Comfort Index was minus 36.7 in the period ended March 4, the highest since April 2008, up from minus 38.8 in the prior period. The gauge on the state of the economy reached a one-year high, while the buying-climate measure climbed to a level last exceeded in December 2009. More
