Colorado School of Public Health gets $3.2 million fed grant for training center

The Colorado School of Public Health will receive $3.2 million over 5 years to support a new Public Health Training Center. The Colorado school, founded in 2008, is a joint venture of the University of Colorado Denver, Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado. The federal funding of $649,497 a year is one of 27 grants for public-health training announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. More

Rules to ensure airline pilots work shorter schedules and rest more are just one outcome of a Colgan Air commuter jet crash 18 months ago near Buffalo that killed 50 people. The accident investigation raised questions about crew scheduling and fatigue, and pointed to errors at the heart of pilot training, management, and professionalism. A decades-overdue overhaul of regulations on pilot fatigue was announced late last week by the Federal Aviation Administration. Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. also are discussing the quality of training of flight crews, and how to improve pilot qualifications and training standards. More
