IAPD will accept applications for the PowerPlay! Beyond School Grant Program! until Friday, February 26. This grant program enables IAPD member agencies to apply for a grant to implement a model beyond-school program that emphasizes health, fitness and nutrition for children ages 5-13.
|PowerPlay! Grant Applications are Due in 8 Days!
IAPD member agencies may receive up to $1,000 to enhance an existing program or create a new beyond-school program.
Go to ILparks.org/powerplay to learn more about the grant and access the application guide, which contains guidelines for PowerPlay! programs. Applications must be postmarked February 26, 2016. Grant recipients will be notified March 18, 2016.
To assist you in your mission to improve water and air quality, IAPD is once again partnering with Living Lands & Waters to offer FREE trees to our members as part of their Million Trees Project. Two species are available: Swamp White Oak and Bur Oak.

Tomorrow — February 19 — is the deadline to complete a survey about this year's conference. The IAPD/IPRA Joint Conference Committee will consider the survey responses as they begin planning for the 2017 Soaring to New Heights Conference.
PRESENTERS: Save the date for next year's show: January 19-21, 2017, Hilton Chicago. The Call for Proposals for the 2017 IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference is now open. Submit a proposal for consideration to the program by June 3.
ATTENDEES: Got an idea for a topic or speaker for the 2017 conference? Submit your suggestion to the Conference Program Committee using the online suggestion form. Simply type your information into the document, save it to your computer as an attachment and submit it via email (striphahn@ILparks.org), fax (847-496-5246), or mail (IAPD; Attn: Sue Triphahn; 4476 Sundance Circle; Hoffman Estates, IL; 60192). The deadline to submit suggestions is March 11. You will hear back within 6 weeks if your session has been accepted.

|Host a Flying 4 KIDS Kite Fly!
We encourage your agency to host kite fly events during these months to promote your parks and facilities, the sport of kite flying and the Park District Youth License Plate — an important revenue generator for park, recreation and conservation agency beyond-school programming.
Register your agency's kite fly event today — it's FREE! Participating agencies will receive graphics, a Flying 4 KIDS Event Planner's Guide and will be included in all IAPD statewide promotions.
Michele Forzley of Westmont, a longtime participant of the South East Association for Special Parks and Recreation, received the Illinois Association of Park District’s 2016 Chairman's Award. At the IAPD's annual meeting in Chicago, Chairman Diane Main presented the award to Forzley to recognize her personal achievements and community service, the news release said.
The Joliet Park District communication department received two awards from the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and Illinois Association of Park Districts. Joliet received a first-place award for website (Taste of Joliet) and a third-place award for integrated photography during this year's IPRA/IAPD Agency Showcase competition.
The Plainfield Park District was recognized for its Scout the Fox summer Facebook campaign by earning third place in the Social Media Campaign category. According to Agency Showcase officials, more than 40 park districts participated in this year's competition.
