Forstater elected to Vice-Chair of ASIS Greater Philadelphia Chapter

IAPSC Member Jerry "Dutch" Forstater, PE has been elected to Vice-Chair of ASIS International’s Greater Philadelphia Chapter for 2015. He served as Secretary during 2014. With hundreds of members, the chapter is one of the organizations largest serving a diverse group of member individuals with law enforcement, corporate security, protective services, forensic, consultant and security vendor experience throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Northern Delaware. Forstater is a 2012 graduate of University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Executive Security Management Program.

Security high as Phoenix prepares for Super Bowl

Elaborate security measures are being prepared for next month's Super Bowl, the biggest annual U.S. sports event, and for two other upcoming major events in the Phoenix area, federal officials said. But they said the designated threat level for the Feb. 1 Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots was the same as in previous years, except for the year after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, when a higher level was declared.

Major embezzlement cases continue to rise

According to the 2013 Marquet Report on Embezzlement, the number of major embezzlement cases, defined as incidents that involve more than $100,000 in reported losses, increased five percent over 2012. In fact, the report, which is conducted annually by boutique investigations and security consulting firm Marquet International, recorded its highest rate of employee theft in its' six-year history. The average loss was about $1.1 million for major embezzlement cases in 2013, which added up to about $595 million overall.

Residents: Police shortage is a security risk for Mardi Gras

Throughout the quieter parts of the French Quarter, residents and businesses have posted signs that read "Caution: Walk in Large Groups. We (heart) N.O.P.D. We Just Need More." It's an unsettling message about violent crime in the Big Easy for the 1 million revelers about to descend for Carnival season, which this year ends on Feb. 17, Fat Tuesday.

Obama defends U.S. counter-terrorism strategy in Yemen

President Barack Obama defended his administration's drone-based counter-terrorism strategy against al Qaeda militants in Yemen, saying the alternative would be to deploy U.S. troops, which was not sustainable. "It is not neat and it is not simple, but it is the best option that we have," Obama told reporters at a news conference in New Delhi. Four months ago, Obama hailed Yemen as a model for "successful" partnerships in the fight against Islamic militants. But recently, the country's U.S.-backed government collapsed, and Iran-backed Houthi rebels took over.

Officials locked down the White House perimeter as officials examined the device, which media outlets are calling a drone.
