On March 15, 'Once and Future Cure; the Past, Present and Future of Medicine' will take on a very old topic with very relevant role in modern medicine: Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS)
ICIM
Excerpts from the article The History of Restless Leg Syndrome: even if you have RLS, you may not be aware that it’s also known as “Ekbom disease” or “Willis-Ekbom disease.” It was identified and described by Professor KarlAxel Ekbom in 1945, but he wasn’t the first. It was initially documented 300 years earlier in England by famous English physician Thomas Willis, who also identified diabetes, meningitis and typhoid fever.

Standardizing benchmark dose calculations to improve science-based decisions in human health assessments

Environmental Health Prospectives
Benchmark dose (BMD) modeling computes the dose associated with a pre-specified response level. While offering advantages over traditional points of departure, such as no-observed-adverse-effect-levels, BMD methods have lacked consistency and transparency in application, interpretation and reporting in human health assessments of chemicals.

Tahoma Clinic Blog

Gluten sensitivity is the most widely accepted term in the medical community, rather than intolerance, which suggests that the body is either lacking or has malfunctioning enzymes used to break down the gluten.

Bioidentical hormones and compounding drug deaths

ICIM
The concept of bioidentical hormones, popularized by the likes of Suzanne Somers and Oprah Winfrey, has created real confusion. While the term has been used to refer to many well-tested, regulatory (FDA) approved, brand-name HT products containing hormones chemically identical to hormones produced by women (primarily in the ovaries), such as estradiol or progesterone, in the wider medical market it has assumed a different meaning.

It's hard to ignore the headlines. Obesity and diabetes have risen to epidemic proportions. Autism, infertility and Celiac disease are all on the rise, as are dozens, if not hundreds, of other conditions. Interestingly enough, this spike in the rates of many conditions like these began around 1974. That is the year Roundup went on the market.

What's the skinny on coconut oil?

The Guyer Institiue
Old nutritional knowledge categorized fat in two ways. Saturated fat was “bad” and unsaturated was “good”. This put coconut oil in the “bad” fat category due to its high saturated fat content. All saturated fat was believed to cause artery clogging heart disease. With this black and white theory, doctors and dietitians urged people to avoid coconut oil.
