Protect the bees or forget about eating

Staying Healthy in a Challenging World
Are you aware that bees' pollenating plants is necessary for one-third of our food crops to grow? And forget about our beautiful flowers that we enjoy so much in the spring if we don't have the bees to help us. If you thought the "government" is watching out for bees and for us, think again. U.S. Pesticide Approval “Grievously Flawed”: "Following on two years of research, the Natural Resources Defense Council, a watchdog group, has found that as much as 65 percent of the 16,000 pesticides the EPA approved between the late 1970s and 2010 were greenlighted through a hasty and potentially incomplete process."

An Ashwagandha a day keeps the stress at bay

The Guyer Institute of Moecular Medicine
Ashwagandha, or "Indian Ginseng" as it is called, is a very unique herb. This supplement has been used for over 5,000 years by Ayurvedic practitioners for rejuvenation, strength, longevity and overall vitality. Only recently has modern science started to unlock the numerous biochemical health benefits of this widely used Eastern herb. Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb, which means that it helps the body adapt to stress and resist the tension that follows. Indian Ginseng contains antioxidants and has been shown to have immune boosting, cognitive enhancing and aphrodisiac promoting properties.

New insight into biomarkers of human mercury exposure using naturally occurring mercury stable isotopes

Environmental Science and Technology
Human exposure to methylmercury and elemental mercury vapor are often estimated using total Hg concentrations in hair and urine, respectively. Environmental Science and Technology investigated whether Hg stable isotopes could be used to better distinguish between exposure to Hg0(g) versus MeHg. It was found that hair from North American dental professionals was characterized by high positive Δ199Hg values. This confirms that among people who regularly consume fish, total Hg concentrations in hair reflect exposure to MeHg.

Interview with ICIM member Elizabeth Vaughan, MD
ICIM
We've all heard about toxins that are in personal care products, our foods and household items. But it's hard to get a handle on exactly how bad these products are. Chemical companies still talk about better living through chemistry and that the levels of these chemicals are too low to cause health problems. The FDA did not believe adults needed to be protected from BPA although they banned BPA from baby bottles and sippy cups last July. Dr. Vaughan is here to discuss everyday exposure to toxins.

Healing with language: Softeners
ICIM
You are undoubtedly familiar with the saying, "A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down," from the film "Mary Poppins." Most adults, however, are taught to take their medicine "straight," without the sugar. That may be good thing for some kinds of "adult medicine," but some medicines still need a metaphorical spoonful of sugar if they are to go down.

The latest on the GMO rider
Alliance for Natural Health USA
Where do we go from here? The Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government passed both the Senate and the House and, despite all our mutual efforts, it still contained the dangerous GMO rider we've been telling you about. The Senate, and in particular, the Senate Appropriations Committee leadership, let us down, despite earlier signals they would stand up to Monsanto on this one.

Estimating wastewater impacts from fracking
Environmental Health Perspectives
Wastewater produced by hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale is already overwhelming disposal options and will continue to do so as gas development increases, according to newly published research. The investigation did not evaluate environmental consequences of the wastewater. Lead author Brian Lutz, an assistant professor in the Kent State University Department of Biology, says fracking wastewater could have a range of environmental and health impacts if not managed correctly.

Advice for healthier joints
EndFatigue.com
Arthritis is a real pain in the joints and nearly 30 million Americans have to deal with it. Twenty-seven million of us deal with pain and stiffness from the wear-and-tear of osteoarthritis, where the cartilage that covers and cushions the ends of your bones becomes thin or disappears and your bones rub together and hurt. Another 2.5 million endure the red, hot, swollen and painful joints of rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to mistakenly identify your cartilage and bones as foreign invaders and attack them.

Mycotoxins: The hidden hormone danger in our food supply
GreenMedInfo.com
Over 30 years ago, scientists observed mycotoxin contaminated animal feed interfering with normal sexual development in young female pigs, resulting in estrogenic syndromes and precocious puberty. Recent human research in the U.S. is now confirming that the contamination of our food supply with fungal toxins is adversely affecting the sexual development of young girls.
