By ICIM 'End Pain' speaker Jacob Teitelbaum MD: Effective treatment of severe chronic fatigue: A report of a series of 64 patients
To determine the underlying causes of severe chronic fatigue states and the effect of concurrently treating the underlying etiologies.
By ICIM 'End Pain' speaker Bruce Shelton MD: Why I don't inject hormone pellets in patients' buttocks: Alternatives to SottoPelle
Last December, I went to a conference in Las Vegas to learn how to inject hormone pellets in patients' posteriors. The room was full of physicians who swore it has built their practices financially and that their patients were very happy people. I've confirmed this happiness with patients who have had this done and say the cost is worth the effort.

Fish Oil — Friend or Foe? Debate it in Dearborn
Fish oil triglycerides vs. ethyl esters
Designs for Health
Omega-3s from fish oil are made up of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, and are available to consumers either as triglycerides or ethyl esters. One of the most frequently debated quality issues surrounding fish oil is which form is best — triglyceride or ethyl ester? What form are the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in when we absorb them from eating fish? The answer is the triglyceride form. In fact, over 98 percent of all fats ingested from foods are in the triglyceride form.

These days, more mums are returning to work after having a baby, and many parents turn to their own parents for help with the kids.
Thus, more seniors are having to help their children out by looking after the grandkids. Many parents say their parents are their first choice when it comes to childcare — the ones they trust the most.
Training by ICIM member Simon Yu MD: Acupuncture Meridian Assessment training for detecting parasites and dental problems
Prevention and Healing Inc
If there is a medical tool that a doctor can use which may assist in detecting the root causes of illness when conventional medicine fails, wouldn't you want to know about it? Well, there is. It is called Acupuncture Meridian Assessment.
I have been incorporating Acupuncture Meridian Assessment as a part of my medical evaluation for almost 20 years. I've had rather unique accidental discoveries of parasites and dental related medical problems that are often overlooked by conventional and alternative medical doctors.
Recommended by ICIM member Bruce Dooley MD: Diabetes tied to a 3rd of California hospital stays, driving healthcare costs higher
The UCLA Center for Health Policy Research
Increasing diabetes prevalence
has been found to be a primary driver of
increased healthcare costs in the United States.
This policy brief examines the impact of diabetes
on hospitalizations and related hospitalization
costs in California. Using 2011 hospital patient
discharge data and annual financial data from
the Office of Statewide Health Planning and
Development, this study found that
patients with diabetes represented 31 percent
of hospitalizations in California in 2011 among
patients 35 years or older, including 39 percent
of African-American and Asian-American
patients and 43 percent of Latino patients.
By ICIM member Elizabeth Vaughan MD: What's hiding behind the mask of lupus?
It often seems like lupus is a disease bent on deception. It can evade diagnosis with symptoms that mimic or overlap those of other health conditions. And there is no one test that diagnoses it definitively. But despite its complex, even duplicitous characteristics, lupus, once properly diagnosed, can often be treated successfully with an integrative approach that addresses the underlying causes of the disease.
By ICIM member Terry Chappell MD: Does treating low testosterone increase the risk of heart attacks?
Possibly. The FDA has not yet reached a conclusion, but it is reviewing a couple of recent studies that have said, yes, it does, at least for men greater than 65 years old and in younger men with a history of heart problems. The studies tested synthetic testosterone in patients who had low blood levels of testosterone. Currently, such treatment is approved only when the low testosterone levels are associated with a medical condition.
is a natural, hypoallergenic alternative to synthetic thyroid medications. Most synthetic thyroid drugs often contain only T4 hormone. Nature-Throid®
contains two thyroid hormones, T4 and T3 to simulate your body’s natural processes. MORE

Yal Ku Lagoon snorkeling
We have snorkeled Yal Ku Lagoon extensively on several occasions. We have seen turtles, rays, barracudas, parrot fish and a host of other interesting sea creatures.
What makes Yal Ku Lagoon so attractive is that during rough sea-days at your hotel where the water is too rough you can visit Yal Ku, which is protected from the main body of water and remains calm.

Detroit, the bankrupt city turned corporate luxury brand
It's Friday night in the heart of Detroit at the Red Bull House of Art, a 14,000-square-foot underground art gallery carved out of the basement of a 19th century brewery. Thousands of the young, the chic and the smart have gathered to celebrate a new cycle of local artists' work. DJ Erika is spinning, champagne is flowing. Outside, a line of people hoping to enter winds around the block.
EDTA chelation therapy decreases oxidative DNA damage and lipid peroxidation
Chelation therapy is thought to not only remove contaminating metals but also to decrease free radical production. However, in standard EDTA chelation therapy, high doses of vitamin C, with potential pro-oxidant effects, are often added to the chelation solution. We demonstrated previously that the intravenous administration of the standard chelation cocktail, containing high doses of vitamin C, resulted in an acute transitory pro-oxidant burst that should be avoided in the treatment of pathologies at risk of increased oxidative stress such as CVD, diabetes and obesity.
Family medicine: The myth
By A. Patrick Jonas, MD
I've noticed after about 177,000 patient encounters many similarities and differences. One of my main responsibilities as a family physician, it seems, is to make sure that each patient knows that they matter — sort of a human validation and often a role validation (father, mother, patient, guardian, etc.).
And, that I know that I matter, too. I value human centering as a skill/strategy of importance, as differentiated from patient centering which seems over-rated and potentially hazardous to the health of ourselves and our colleagues.
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy — a new manifestation of Lyme disease?
Several syndromes derived from the involvement of central and peripheral nervous system and meninges have been reported in the infection by Borrelia burgdorferi. The features of autonomic nervous system involvement have received a marginal attention. Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is an autonomic picture characterized by regional sympathetic hyperactivity which has not been associated with Lyme disease. We report a 16-year-old female with clinical, radiological and scintigraphic features consistent with reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
Lipid lowering effects of black seed
Cholesterol is a lipid molecule vital for life. It is required to build the membrane of each cell in our bodies and also for the synthesis of vitamin D and a number of very important steroid hormones.
Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which blood cholesterol level is elevated, the condition affects 13 percent of Americans. A number of risk factors can cause hypercholesterolemia including high fat diet, sedentary lifestyle and genetics. Hypercholesterolemia is itself a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
