The fusion of mindfulness and medicine; a revolutionary approach to advance your wellness practice
Eventbrite - End Pain

Mindfulness Practice, a deceptively simple way of relating to life's experiences, has been practiced to alleviate human suffering for more than 25,000 years. Most recently, through a number of empirically validated studies both the medical and mental health communities are discovering that shifting the internal states though mindfulness training and addressing the body's bioenergetic patterns holds great promise in promoting sustainable well-being both psychologically and physiologically. Through lecture, demonstrations, participatory exercises and exploratory discussions, ICIM member David Pawsat, DO, and his sister Eva Mondor, LPC, will demonstrate how the integration of empirically based mindfulness training, osteopathic medical treatment, and physical interventions derived from kinesiology, acupuncture, yoga, and other ancient systems of healing can bring the heart back to medicine, revolutionize your practice, empower your patients and potentially transform your life.

Fish Oil — Friend or Foe? Debate it in Dearborn

Fish oil may not prevent heart disease after all
The Washington Post
In 1968, an anonymous editorial in the Danish Medical Society's weekly journal laid bare a puzzling pattern of disease among Inuit in Greenland. Coronary artery disease, the most common type of heart disease, was strangely uncommon among the Inuit. The author called on Danish researchers to study the tribes "before it was too late" — before globalization trampled their way of life.

"End Pain" Speaker book of the week

By Guy Chamberland PhD, Master Herbalist
This textbook is written for consumers, students and practitioners of naturopathy, herbal medicine, nutritional medicine and conventional medicine who have an interest in integrative treatments. This book, "The Use of Herbal Remedies in the Treatment of Pain" is also designed to offer the average person a wide range of natural choices in managing pain. It introduces a natural, herbal, therapeutic approach that mimics the pharmacological basis of how drugs are used to relieve pain.

By ICIM member Dale Guyer MD: Prolotherapy and regenerative medicine
The Guyer Institute of Molecular Medicine
I recently attended a meeting in Kansas City hosted by the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy and Regenerative Medicine. That meeting highlighted some of the recent findings and clinical results using prolotherapy. Particular emphasis was on the experience coupling with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) with Prolotherapy to dramatically enhance clinical results. Also discussed were advanced regenerative injection techniques utilizing stem cell therapy(isolated the patient's own adipose[fat]cells).

Connect with Chelation

EDTA chelation therapy decreases oxidative DNA damage and lipid peroxidation
Chelation therapy is thought to not only remove contaminating metals but also to decrease free radical production. However, in standard EDTA chelation therapy, high doses of vitamin C, with potential pro-oxidant effects, are often added to the chelation solution. We demonstrated previously that the intravenous administration of the standard chelation cocktail, containing high doses of vitamin C, resulted in an acute transitory pro-oxidant burst that should be avoided in the treatment of pathologies at risk of increased oxidative stress such as CVD, diabetes and obesity.

Practice Management

Non-violent communication
American Board of Holistic Medicine
Have you noticed the general lack of civility and courteous dialogue these days? It is not just politicians but regular people who seem not to be able to cope well with those they disagree with. The hateful, negative tone of letters to the editor, nasty conversations with store clerks, shouting at kids, feisty disagreements with colleagues, and so on all create an overall atmosphere of negativity in our world. Though we just got through both Passover and Easter seasons, it still seems a lot of us still need deliverance and redemption, not from the Pharaoh or the devil, but from ourselves.

Study: Cynicism linked to greater dementia risk
Dr. Joseph Mercola
The state of your mind has more to do with your health than you might think. In fact, it's capable of influencing not only your mood but also your physical health, including that of your brain. Negative emotions are particularly damaging, of course, and these run the gamut from depression and anxiety to pessimism and, according to the latest research, cynicism.
