Paradox & Controversy: Infections, Cancer Management, and Energy Medicine
Chicago
Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2015

ICIM is a medical association of physicians dedicated to exploring and teaching integrative treatments to help our patients. Our 60th meeting is coming up Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Chicago. This newsletter is designed to prepare attendees and continue discussions of the education we provide.

PEMF: Learn from the finest
ICIM
At this meeting, ICIM will be exploring what is currently understood about energy medicine. Dr. Jim Oschman, author of Energy Medicine and a speaker at ICIM said that "in all living things, energy is more fundamental than chemistry." There can be no doubt that energy medicine will be an inextricable part of the future of medicine. Energy medicine "recognizes the importance of resonance — the tendency of objects such as atomic nuclei, electrons or molecules to vibrate strongly at certain frequencies and for these vibrations to be coupled through space to other objects with similar resonant frequencies." This knowledge has already made its way into mainstream medicine by the introduction of the MRI machine.

What the heck is PEMF? Speaker Dr. Carolyn McMakin
ICIM
Any moving electrons — current — creates a magnetic field. And a magnetic field will make electrons move. So electro-magnetic fields are what we all deal with — they are inseparable. They found in the 1970's and 80's that when you used pulsed magnetic fields you could get non-union fractures to heal. Pawluck did some of that original work in non-union fractures.

There is the short story and then the long story. You must divide the discussion into man-made devices and into what happens in nature and — the really long discussion — what is an electron?

Letter to the editor, BBC News, UK, RE: The bulb hoarders
BBC
The government wants your old-fashioned energy-hungry incandescent tungsten light bulb gone and gone soon. But some people are willing to go to great lengths to hang onto the lights they love.

Paul Parente was one of the 1st presidents of ICIM — we honor his life
Paul Parente, D.O., passed away on May 28, 2015, after a long illness. He was known as an excellent integrative physician who always had time to teach and give support to his colleagues at the Great Lakes College of Medicine (now known as the International College of Integrative Medicine). He was a long-time board member and served as its president. He was an inspiration to the rest of us, especially showing us how his partnership with Dr. Al Scarchilli not only thrived but together they were so much more than either of them apart. Paul practiced in Farmington Hills, Michigan, for many years, which was a gift to the citizens of the Detroit area and patients who came from Canada to see him as well. Our condolences to Barbara, children and grandchildren.

Prepare for ICIM's 60th Meeting: Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2015, Chicago

By ICIM speaker Alexander Mostovoy, HD, DHMS, BCCT: Thermopathology and breast cancer
Wiley Online Library
Various methods are now available for clinical exploration of the breast. The most commonly used methods provide information essentially on morphology and structure, including macroscopic data and microscopic data. By contrast, the thermal methods, among them skin thermography using infrared scanners or liquid crystals films, offer the advantage of giving information on thermophysiology.

ICIM Speaker book of the week

Thomas Seyfried: 'Cancer as a Metabolic Disease: On the Origin, Management, and Prevention of Cancer'
Amazon
The book addresses controversies related to the origins of cancer and provides solutions to cancer management and prevention. It expands upon Otto Warburg's well-known theory that all cancer is a disease of energy metabolism. However, Warburg did not link his theory to the "hallmarks of cancer" and thus his theory was discredited. This book aims to provide evidence, through case studies, that cancer is primarily a metabolic disease requiring metabolic solutions for its management and prevention.

New Member Profile

Dan Martin, DOM
Dr. Martin is a rare find in doctors in this day and age. With the increased pace of new discoveries in technology and the never-ending demand of patients on a doctor's existence, many doctors lack the personal touch. Often, patients leave an office feeling uncared for and just another insurance form to file. Martin, however, is down to earth, visiting with patients as they receive treatments while treating them with respect and courtesy, lacking today in many major clinics. It is no wonder that many of Martin's patients come from as far as Maine and California to be under his care.
