ICIM partners with Alliance for Natural Health
ICIM    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Video As a nonprofit, ICIM cannot engage in political advocacy. However, our field of integrative medicine and natural health is constantly under attack. Without careful monitoring and raising our voice against the power of the drug lobby, the work we do would be made impossible. That is why we need to partner with groups like the Alliance for Natural Health, a lobbying and political action organization that does the work and analysis our field dearly needs.

This year, ICIM has added an additional membership benefit: a year's free membership in Alliance for Natural Health. Although our members overwhelmingly support their work, very few actually join ANH. Now we can make it possible for our members to have a direct outlet for political action through our gift of this empowering tool. As always, we welcome you to join a medical community that is like a family, where behind every colleague is a friendly face. Click here to join ICIM for 2013.

Anyone can subscribe to The Pulse of Natural Health and get excellent action alerts that make it easy and fast to send notes to Congress and share issues on social media.

Will sneaky GMO amendments pass because of an underhanded maneuver?
Alliance for Natural Health    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Not if we stop them. These amendments on genetically modified food represent a sneaky, behind-closed-doors attempt to make GMO foods immune from court review. Now an even sneakier, more questionable legislative maneuver might get them passed. More

Report: Health hazards of heavy metals and other metals
IBCMT    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Thanks to a great amount of scientific research, the permanent exposure of human beings to small doses of heavy metals — such as cadmium, mercury and lead — is increasingly being recognized as one of the co-determinants of certain neurological, cardiovascular and autoimmune illnesses. Given the right of every individual to a healthy environment, preventive health strategies aimed at reducing human exposure to heavy metals should be a political priority of all countries. More

Is cancer a nonhealing wound?
Riordian Clinic    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The third Riordan IVC and Cancer Symposium will once again explore the underlying causes of cancer, with the intent of elucidating new ways to treat the disease in a nontoxic fashion. Many cancer risk factors are associated with woundlike conditions. Chronic inflammation appears to be a common denominator of both cancer causation and propagation. More

Study: Curry compound may curb diabetes risk
Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Supplements containing a compound found in curry spice may help prevent diabetes in people at high risk, according to a Thai study. Researchers, whose results were published in the journal Diabetes Care, found that over nine months, a daily dose of curcumin seemed to prevent new cases of diabetes among people with so-called prediabetes — abnormally high blood-sugar levels that may progress to full-blown Type 2 diabetes. Healing With Language: The 'Rule of Three'
ICIM    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Three is a magic number. Orators and writers have been using the "Rule of Three" since the beginning of recorded history. When we want others to remember what we have said, we need to repeat it at least three times. Recall TV commercials you have loved or hated. Note that they repeat their most important point or points at least three times. Most people who watch TV with any regularity, for example, have no problem remembering that the phone number for Empire Carpet is 1-800-588-2300.

This is especially true when people are under stress, which is often the case when someone needs to see a medical professional. It's so well-known, for example, that a visit to a medical professional causes a person's blood pressure to elevate, that the phenomenon has a name: White Coat Syndrome.

In "The Book of Awakening," author Mark Nepo (who has recovered from two different cancers) reminds us to repeat important things three times: once for the right ear, once for the left ear and once for the heart. "Mark Nepo is a poet," Oprah Winfrey says. "He's an author and a philosopher and has been through two different cancers. So when he writes, he writes purely from the heart."

When you want to make sure that your clients or patients will remember what you have said and that you care, say what you need to have them know three times with appropriate spacing. Saying it three times in a row only counts as once, so, using sense-based vocabulary if you can, provide an explanation for what you want them to remember before repeating it.

Also, remember to meet the requirements of the person's Confirmation Metaprogram or "convincer" strategy: Give them something to read or view as part of your repetition process, and be sure to set a kinesthetic anchor to help them remember.

The anxiety of waiting for test results
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As medical records move online and state regulations loosen, many patients can bypass the doctor's call and get the results of medical tests faster, directly from labs via websites and apps. But new federal regulations may permit all patients that right by year's end. Many experts are concerned that pervasive direct access to test results may have serious drawbacks, leaving patients even more confused and overwhelmed by information they do not know how to interpret. 30 years of secret, official transcripts prove vaccine schedules are based on government lies
NaturalNews    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A comprehensive investigation into the inner workings of the United Kingdom's nationalized healthcare system has revealed a shocking legacy of corruption and lies concerning the country's vaccine policy. According to Dr. Lucija Tomlijenovic, Ph.D., from the University of British Columbia in Canada, the advisory and governing bodies that set vaccination policy in the U.K. have, for decades now, hidden the truth about vaccine dangers, and deliberately pushed unsafe vaccines on the public in order to uphold the official vaccination schedule. Exercise may help ease depression in heart failure
Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
People with heart failure who are also depressed may benefit from regular, moderate exercise, a new study suggests. Researchers found patients who exercised an hour and a half to two hours per week had slightly lower depression scores, which in turn were tied to a reduced risk of re-hospitalizations and deaths related to heart problems. Coping with clunky care transitions
Townsend Letter    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Over time, the U.S. healthcare system has evolved in several separate organizations or systems. Hospitals, primary care doctors, specialists, home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities. Each has its own vocabulary, different fee schedules and financial incentives. The payment system generally doesn't pay extra for the time and effort needed to gracefully transition patients from one setting to the next, so it comes as no surprise that the transitions are clunky.
