Why ICIM: A historical overview
By Victoria Woods-Yee
Victoria Woods-Yee writes, "What is the need for an organization like ICIM? What is ICIM's role for the future and how does it help its members? While looking through ICIM's files and the files of it's predecessor organizations, I came across an American Academy of Medical Preventics Membership 100/100 speech written by Dr. Conrad G. Maulfair Jr., D.O. in the Summer of 1985."

Life expectancy increases but the US falls behind other countries

In the last 20 years, the U.S. life expectancy rose from 75.2 to 78.2 and the healthy life expectancy increased from 65.8 to 68.1. However, the life expectancy at birth in the U.S. dropped from 20th to 27th compared to other developed countries during that time period. The healthy life expectancy in the U.S. dropped from 14th to 26th. These numbers are terrible.

Memories of a doctor's daughter
By Wendy Chappell
Wendy Chappell writes, "I was six years old when I attended the first medical meeting. It was held at the Great Shawnee Lodge in southern Ohio. My mother had made sure we were 'cleaned up' from our daily life on the farm and she made all four of us — ages 1-6 — matching 70s outfits for the occasion. My dad Terry Chappell was a traveling doctor at the time, serving three of the poorest counties in Ohio with a motor home full of food, blankets and medical supplies. It was during those years that he started exploring integrative in earnest, prescribing vitamin C and teaching self-hypnosis as an alternative to expensive pain medications."

Coronary-stenting abuse cases highlighted in Bloomberg story
Medscape via IBCMT vice president Dr. Hasnain Patel
An article in the financial press surveys recent high profile cases of alleged coronary-stenting overuse, described by a sources as "just the tip of the iceberg," and alternates them with stories from some of the patients involved. Although there are a few comments from leaders in the cardiology community that try to put the cases in perspective, the 3500-word story ultimately portrays a subspecialty too often abused by practitioners bending or ignoring the guidelines in pursuit of procedure-based profits.

Silent Epidemic — The untold story of vaccines

Gary Null via YouTube
VideoBrief Silent Epidemic, by award-winning film director Gary Null, is the first documentary to investigate thoroughly the true medical record and the historical evidence about vaccine marvels. Conventional medicine has herald the invention of vaccines as a miracle of modern science. It claims that vaccines have been proven to prevent and eradicate infectious diseases. We are told that vaccines are safe and effective, and that "herd immunity" can be achieved if a high percentage of a population is vaccinated. However, does the science support these claims and what are the untold consequences?

Current themes in integrative cancer research and cancer care

Naturopathic oncology has become an emerging and vibrant field within integrative oncology, applying the basic principles of integrative medicine to cancer treatment. This discipline was formalized in 2006 and now offers national board certification. There is also a fellowship designation: a practitioner who has been board certified in naturopathic oncology is designated a fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology, comparable to the type of credentials that a cardiologist would seek after training in primary care.

Healing with language: The 'Convincer Strategy'
SCS Matters
The Confirmation Metaprogram — also known as the “Convincer Strategy" — governs the way people decide what is "true." Most people are not consciously aware of their own, let alone those of others. That often causes trouble in relationships. How do you know when someone loves you? How do others know when you love them?

Alcoholism treatment before, after liver transplantation reduces relapse
Medical Xpress
New research reports that liver transplant recipients who receive substance abuse treatment before and after transplantation have much lower alcohol relapse rates than those untreated or only treated prior to transplantation. A second study determines that continued alcohol abuse following liver transplantation decreases graft survival, further highlighting the importance of preventing alcohol relapse. Both studies are published in Liver Transplantation, a journal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the International Liver Transplantation Society.
