New drugs from fish oil could aid artery repair
Medical Xpress
Every year, more than a half-million Americans undergo procedures to have a narrowed coronary artery propped open with a small metal mesh tube, or stent. The procedure is common for certain patients who've experienced a heart attack or other arterial blockages, and it helps to restore blood flow. But in about one in four cases (one in three if it's your leg artery), the vasculature tissue starts renarrowing again after the procedure, effectively regrowing the blockage.

Preconception care for diabetic women could potentially save $5.5 billion
Medical Xpress
Pregnant women with diabetes are at an increased risk for many adverse birth outcomes. Preconception care can significantly lower these risks by helping pregnant mothers with diabetes control their glucose levels, resulting in healthier babies and less money spent on complicated deliveries and lifelong medical complications. Effective, universal PCC for diabetic mothers could avert an estimated $5.5 billion in health expenditures and lost employment productivity over affected children's lifetimes, according to a new study published in the latest issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

By ICIM speaker Jacob Teitelbaum MD: Effective treatment of pain and fibromyalgia: Treating the root causes
Townsend Letter
It is important to recognize that, like the flashing red oil light on your car's dashboard, pain is your body's way of saying that something needs attention. If you have your hand on a hot stove or have a broken leg, the cause is obvious. But most of the time with arthritis, migraines, fibromyalgia or other common pains, the cause is less obvious. So what do most doctors do? Simply throw an often-toxic pain medication at the person.

Feeling pressure from the public, NIH opens the books on clinical trials
Alliance for Natural Health USA
Researchers may now have to make clinical study results public — even if the results run counter to the interests of big pharma. In response to mounting concerns that important health data has been kept hidden from physicians and their patients, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services have proposed new rules that would greatly expand what researchers are required to report about the clinical trials of drugs, devices and other interventions.

Natural News
The common cold and flu are believed by most physicians to be caused by exposure and susceptibility to a variety of common viruses. However, not everyone catches a cold or flu when exposed, which indicates it's the strength of the host that dictates whether you come down with an infection.

NIH scientists determine how environment contributes to several human diseases
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
Using a new imaging technique, National Institutes of Health researchers have found that the biological machinery that builds DNA can insert molecules into the DNA strand that are damaged as a result of environmental exposures. These damaged molecules trigger cell death that produces some human diseases, according to the researchers. The work, appearing online Nov. 17 in the journal Nature, provides a possible explanation for how one type of DNA damage may lead to cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular and lung disease, and Alzheimer's disease.
