U.S. Shooting Academy IDPA Club welcomes competitors to Tulsa
IDPA
On behalf of IDPA, Peter Navesky and Jay Dougherty, the Co-MDs for the U.S. Shooting Academy IDPA Club, would like to welcome you to the Tulsa area for the 2015 IDPA World Championship! While many of you have participated in some of the IDPA National Championship matches held at U.S. Shooting Academy since 2009, some of you may be new to the Tulsa area. Hopefully your schedule will allow you to experience some of the diverse dining and entertainment opportunities the area has to offer.

As IDPA competitors and supporters, firearms have great meaning to us. Located in Claremore, Oklahoma is the J.M. Davis gun museum, which has over 20,000 firearms and other artifacts on display. If your trip to Tulsa allows we urge you to spend some time there. See: http://www.thegunmuseum.com/. Claremore is also the birthplace and home of the noted Oklahoma humorist Will Rogers.

Tulsa has a large variety of eating places, but we recommend you try some of the various historical districts in Tulsa, many located near downtown. Most of these places are "one of" or regional restaurants and bars, not national chains. To explore some of these areas, go to http://www.bluedometulsa.com/, or http://thebradyartsdistrict.com/ or https://www.zomato.com/tulsa-ok/cherry-street-restaurants. And if you like seafood, we recommend you try the White River Fish Market and Restaurant. It has been a local favorite for many, many years. See: http://www.whiteriverfishmarket.com/

For those looking for other types of entertainment while you are in the Tulsa area, there are a variety of options ranging from multiple casinos including a Hard Rock Café and Casino, The Bank of Oklahoma Center will host the Rock n' Rib Festival from Thursday, Sept. 17 through Sunday, Sept. 20 in downtown Tulsa, and there are many shopping areas located around Tulsa, etc. The staff at the match hotel can provide local information also.

We wish you safe travels and great shooting at the 2015 IDPA World Championship!

Area Coordinator's Corner
IDPA

Toran Maynard
Your Name: Toran Maynard

AC Area of Responsibility: New Mexico

Why do you shoot IDPA? Initially it was the competitive and "tactical" aspects. As time went on it's more about having fun with other shooters.

What do you like about being an AC? Helping the clubs in my area with issues they may have. I'm also a Safety Officer Instructor, so the two hats interchange easily.

Document your self-defense training
Gun Digest
If you ever wind up in front of a judge or jury in the unenviable position of having to justify an act of self-defense, you will need to prove that your actions were reasonable under the circumstances. Informing the triers of fact about the training you’ve had is the key.

Choosing defensive ammo
Ammoland
Accuracy is negotiable; reliability is not. You should put a lot of thought into the selection of your defensive ammo. First and foremost, that ammo must feed, fire and eject every time you pull the trigger.
