The NLRB recently announced proposed changes to union-election procedures, the effects of which will dwarf the importance of the Boeing case and substantially increase the number of unionized workplaces. In a nutshell, the NLRB's proposed rules would implement "quickie elections," a process that would allow unions to organize a workplace as easily as they could have had the Employee Free Choice Act (also known as "card check") passed. Eaton to provide energy distribution systems for US medical center

U.S.-based diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton has been selected to provide energy distribution system products for the new $665 million Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center located in Florida. The company will supply switchgear, panel boards, switchboards, motor control center lineups, Power Xpert remote meter monitoring software, power factor correction capacitors, arc flash labels and training, and system startup, unit substations and a combination of drives. New rule proposed on employers' use of union consultants

The Obama administration recently said employers should disclose more information about the consultants they hire to respond to union bargaining or organizing campaigns, a move long sought by organized labor and opposed by employers. The Labor Department's proposal hinges on the interpretation of "advice" stemming from the 1959 Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act. More

Congratulations to the 37 apprentices graduating from the Mid-South IEC chapter! With the largest graduating class in history, there were plenty of reasons to celebrate. Attendees and graduates heard from two very special speakers: IEC National President Mike Kallmeyer, and Memphis' Mayor AC Wharton. Special congratulations goes out to Adam Smith from R.T.Carlock Electric for being the chapter's Electrical Apprentice of the Year, to Milam from AlarmTec of Memphis for being the Low Voltage Apprentice of the Year, and to Levi Adair from Marathon Electric for having perfect attendance. IEC Fort Worth/Tarrant County Chapter celebrated the accomplishments of 32 electrical apprenticeship graduates, top apprentices and other honorees. This year's graduation ceremony was hosted at the Bob Duncan Community Center in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, June 9 with more than 250 family, friends, distinguished guests, company representatives, sponsors and staff to honor IEC Fort Worth/Tarrant County's Class of 2011. More

On Friday, June 17 the IEC Atlanta Chapter held it's Annual Apprenticeship Graduation Ceremonies at the Hilton Northeast in Norcross, Ga.
